It did not take long for Kaydi to get ready for visitors. She had some placental fragments that needed help removing and within a half hour, the parents and grandparents were allowed to visit. We marched down that hall in our matching t-shirts and everyone in the hospital stood to salute us – well at least they stared at out costumes.
Kaydi was amazing. After all she had been through, she even said that giving birth to Gibson was the most wonderful thing she had ever done before. I was impressed to say the least. But she was hungry and thirsty and had a sandwich and large ice water in front of her within minutes. After the parents and grandparents visited for a while, the nurse came to visit again and we were asked to leave. A little later, all the rest of the visitors were allowed to come in. Everyone was impressed by how well Garrett and Kaydi had held up through this ordeal.
Gibson was hooked up to a variety of sensors and poked and probed and prodded and drugged and man he looked good all decked in his wires and buzzers and bells. Gibson did not stay long in the NICU. He was to be transferred to the Primary Children's Hospital for the rest of his hospital stay which may be several months. To do this he had get aboard Life Flight. He actually never went outdoors, they just used the Life Flight staff to transport him between buildings connected by a skywalk. They are such professionals. Kaydi stayed behind to entertain visitors and Garrett and his dad accompanied Gibson across the walkway.
During the night, it was determined that Gibson would be hooked up to the ECMO machine. ECMO means - Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation. It is a machine that relieves some of the pressure on the lungs and heart to deliver oxygen. Gibson's heart and lungs are still working, they just do not need to work as hard. This morning Gibson met with family and friends and was a trooper through it all. I think his first word was 'grandpa'.
So glad Gibson is doing well~Our prayers and thoughts continue to be with you all! Thanks for the updates!
